In case you got stuck on Mopac heading South today, it's because there are 5 huge brush fires on the frontage road right at Barton Skyway. We are watching it from my office window...just crazy. The entire frontage is black and dead now.

If the entire state does not get rain soon there is a possibility the whole place could go up in flames.

I saw on the news this morning that there are hay bales in a field in Plano burning.

And Mopac is open again. They had it down to one lane. I won't say smooth sailing, b/c it is a Friday afternoon at Rush hour, but the fires are out now, as far as I can see.

Heading north on 183 it looked like there was smoke in the National Instruments area but I don't see anything on the news sites about it.

Just read that there is a 500 acre brush fire (25% contained) in Bastrop and edging up to Elgin.

Yesterday there was a 15 acre fire in Avery Ranch East, started by construction welding where new houses are being built. No structures were damaged and nobody was injured. It is getting downright scary now.

And it's not going to get any better anytime soon:

Regional Drought Monitor: South

Since we name hurricanes, I'm proposing we should also name this high pressure cell that's parked itself over the state. I'm calling it El Fuego.
