Im turning 30 and getting the girls to go downtown. Whats a cool hotel, restaurant, and bar with a good atmosphere? We all live in austin so nothing too touristy or where all the college kids hang.

Old fashioned cocktails at Haddington's, definitely no college kids.

You definitely want to avoid 6th street. That's either college or ghetto depending on which section you're in. By contrast, "West 6th" is more upscale and young professionals. Haddingtons was a good suggestion and is right in the heart of the West 6th area (this means west of Congress Ave, almost to Whole Foods). If you're looking to meet people, I'd suggest The Ranch, J Blacks, or Annies West. They are all right next door to each other. I'd also check out the rooftop bars over on 4th street (one is called The Hanger, and there is another one across the street from it). It's awesome on the roof. This is around 4th and guad.

Another suggestion is the bars in the W hotel over around 3rd street. They are fancy and there are several different ones all within the same building, and they have good snacks.

I think I'd start at the W where it is air conditioned, walk over to The Hanger and see the twilight of the setting sun, then take pedicabs over to west 6th for the Ranch and J Blacks

Alternatively, if you want a different vibe, you could head to the Rainey Street area. That's over around 1st street and I-35. There are several bars around there in old houses...one is very, very hole in the wall, one is very modern, etc. I'd say if you're a little more on the hipster-y side go to Rainy Street and if you're a little more on the Texas Exes UT alumni side head to west 6th.

The W is a great bar for 30.
