Hi!
I just moved here, and I'm looking for places to go to meet people. I am 31, swf, no kids, etc. Where can I go to meet people, other than a smoke-filled bar or a church? I'm a graduate student, but my peers are either early 20's or 50's +.
Any help would be appreciated.

Most bars here are non smoking, still a bad environment to meet people though. There are some social sports leagues and outdoor groups or you can always try online dating.

I did alot of that in Dallas; hence, the "eek". I hope its better in Austin.

I met my wife online but YMMV. Honestly 31 swf no kids educated should have no problem here. There are lots of guys in this town late 20 to mid 40's with decent jobs looking for somebody nice to spend time with who doesn't have tons of baggage and isnt a bar skank.

Smoking is banned from all restaurants and bars in Austin. I can't say that I've heard of a smoke-filled church, though.

I love trying new things, and look forward to some outdoor activities since I'm nearly recovered from knee surgery.
I love music, animals, cooking, volunteering, going to places like comedy clubs or Dave & Busters. I'm kind of a dork. I'd rather just have a dinner party at a friends and play board games. But I have to make friends first, and also wanted to step outside my comfort zone.

No problem and good luck out there, I'm glad that part of my life is over. My inspiration to try online dating was this goofy guy who sat in the cube across from me. He kept on getting dates with different hot women regularly and I finally asked him what he was doing. You might look into the hill country outdoors group, the austin social sports league, or an alumni group from your college.
