[quote=Austin97;20594713]I wouldnt be surprised if you got the same treatment here. Also there is something called the texas courtesy law which says that you can (but dont have to) drive on the shoulder to make it easier for faster cars to pass.[quote]

Last year I drove a 26 foot truck (Penske) without the car on the back from California to Austin. I can tell you that you should not attempt to drive on a shoulder, no matter how many people are behind you! If you have to, you can pull off into a larger truck stop if people are impatient. I drove from El Paso to Austin, and never had anyone in Texas act rudely or impatiently. Best of luck to you!

Thanks, Grasshopper, and everyone else for the additional tips! I've been stuck behind trucks before and completely understand how other drivers may feel if they're behind me. I'll definitely pull off into a truck stop area if some folks want to move faster than I can. I will not, however, risk my vehicle, belongings, my own life, and the lives of others on the road by trying to go too fast in that truck. I'll need more stopping distance, and also have to take the offramps slower. I'll feel bad for anyone behind me, but will do my best to be courteous!

Most Texas highways have pretty wide paved shoulders, so if you find traffic is backing up behind you and can safely ride with at least the right side of your vehicle on the shoulder, it makes it easier for cars to see ahead and judge when they can pass you safely.
