Hey Everyone,

I'm planning a trip to go to Austin early Oct. After "City Limits". I've already been to Austin during "SxSW Festival" in 2010 & am considering of moving down. So, since I'm planning to be down the last week of Sept. or 1st week of Oct. (not sure) I was wondering if someone could tell me what the weather is (of course, I know the Southern states Have NO WINTERS - Thank God!!, but). I remember 1 or 2 days that I was down there for "SxSW" it was in the 50's & it was Raining. @ that time I was wearing Dress Pants, Blouse, a Blazer, AND a Demin Jacket but it was COLD!! As I was waiting for the bus on "Oltorf" I was FREEZING!! I couldn't believe it. I wasn't Expecting this. I just took advice from people up here in the NYC area that I Wouldn't Need Any COATS b/c Southern States Don't have Winters & to dress in layers. So, this is why I Didn't Bring my Coat just my Demin Jacket. So, what I'd like to know is:

1) What are the temperatures during the Days (last week of Sept. or 1st week of Oct.)??

Are they in the Low, Mid, High 60's?

Are they in the Low, Mid, High 70's?

Are they in the Low, Mid, High 80's?

Is the weather STICKY During the Day?

Or

Is it Hot w/ A Warm BREEZE?

2) What are the temperatures during the Nights (I'm assuming that no matter where you are Nights are Usually Cooler than the Days.)?

In the Low, Mid, High 60's?

In the Low, Mid, High 70's?

In the Low, Mid, High 80's?

3) Is the weather STICKY @ Night?

Or

Is it COOLER & BREEZY?

I would Greatly Appreciate any information from anyone. & I'm open to any suggestions that someone can give me. Thanks!

On "Weather Underground" you can research by date.

History : Weather Underground

In this example, on October 1, 2010, the actual high and low was 87 & 66, and the average for the date is 86 & 65. You can click "previous day" or "next day" or change the dates in the dropdowns to choose another date.

But, just so you know....we have been in a record breaking drought and have had over 70 days with temps running 100 degrees or above. Today was supposed to have been 110. So September and October will PROBABLY be a bit hotter than those links will show (just a guess).

You might want to research that a little more. When we were in Charlotte, NC, it snowed a bit during the winter the past year or so. It's not a flat "no winters" thing. Maybe not a six-months-of-snow thing, but ...

SxSW is in March which is much cooler than late September/early October.

In late September, expect upper 80's and low 90's with lows in the upper 60's.

In early October, expect highs in the mid 80's and lows in the mid 60's.

Well, you came in March, which is not usually similar weather to September/October. It's usually still hot in September. Think 90's during the hot part of the day (maybe 100's this year), cooling to the 70's at night. October starts to cool off a little (think high 80's), but it's not until the end of it that we start seeing temperatures people around here would consider "cool." March is often nippy at times.

The other thing you need to remember about Texas weather is that it varies WILDLY. We have a saying that it can change in 5 minutes. You might have a day in January where it freakishly gets up to 70 degrees. Then the following day (or later that day!) a cold front might blow through and it might be 40 degrees. It can be pouring rain and be sunny 10 minutes later. You need to check the weather forecast for those specific days when the event gets closer, then dress in layers so you're prepared for anything.

60's won't come til November if that.
I always have family at Thanksgiving and weather is the top topic.
One year it snowed (flurries), one year was in the 60's and one year was in the 90's.
That's Texas for ya !

Where is the 90 degree option? I got married in October on a very nice breezy 95 degree day a few years ago so we can have hot and cold. As far as taking New Yorkers advice for how to pack..not the smartest move cause Southern States do get cold. Maybe not the blowing blizzard or inches of wet snow but it does not take all that to be really cold! Good luck with this trip, weather could be all over the place at that time of year.
