Does anyone have a grasp on how these fires are traveling and in which direction? I'm asking because from the smoke plumes it seems to be getting closer but I'm not a good judge of distance.

I've packed up an overnight bag and put the cat carriers by the door. The smoke smell has gotten strong here too (think it's blowing down from Leander).

i spotted this link on twitter a few minutes ago - shows the wind direction of fires. i don't know how accurate it is, but it is worrying.

Keep in mind that the smell of smoke is not particularly telling. There are certain times of year we get smoke from Mexico - when they burn crop fields at the end of the season.

I smelled smoke at 6 a.m. this morning, but I know the closest fire was perhaps 10 miles away in Hays county.
