My wife and I bought a couple of mid-1960's era Raleigh Superbes (a his-and-hers matched set) from our elderly neighbors several years ago. They've been stored in our garage since then and now it's time to restore them to ride (or sell them I guess). The tires are flat and there's a bit of rust, but the basic components seem like they're in pretty good shape. But what do I know?

Does anyone have a lead on an individual or a shop that handles vintage restorations like this?

Unless you have a sentimental attachment to them, I'd consider selling on Craigs. You could easily eclipse the value of the bike with restoration costs unless you find a hobbyist who just wants to tinker.

I see you have a post there already. You'll likely get some responses telling you they are only 'worth' $10 each and offering to take them off your hands . IF the drive train is OK, the rear hub will be a challenge as will the brakes(unless they are just in great shape).

David @ Music City Cycles would be a good starting point to A) Get the work done or 2) Find the contact for an old bike guru who might specialize in that vintage. David has been in the biz a long time for such a young guy! Otherwise, you might wade through the responses from C-L, especially if someone has a particular shop in mind.

If you want to study a bit...

Good luck!

Thanks! I found that Sheldon Brown site a while back - that guy REEALLLY knows his Raleigh bikes. I've been hesitating on a craigslist ad because I'm sure I'd second-guess myself on the price.
I'll give David a call. Thanks for the tip.
