You could get into a 2 bedroom apartment in NW Austin (just North of the Arboretum) on Jollyville Rd. for right at $900 per month. It's much more centrally located compared to Round Rock, Leander, etc. There are quite a few areas that you could choose that pretty much meet your wants except for the large dog requirement.

I don't want to make the thread take a bad turn and I know that dogs are like family, but when I was a kid, my single parent at the time had to give up our dog to another nice family so we could relocate to an affordable apartment much like yourself. I do applaud you for wanting to get your family out of Vegas. I would venture to say that just about any place in TX would be more family oriented than Vegas.

Mark311, I would certainly consider adopting the dog out, but I did that last time we moved and it killed my daughter. And by "large" I mean a 6mo old pit/mastiff that already weighs 40lbs!! Guess a rental house in Leander or Hutto might serve my needs better at this point.
Everyone has been so considerate with their thoughts and responses, I appreciate that!! Thank you!!

I was afraid of that. Your options are going to be even more limited since you have a large dog that is considered an aggressive breed. Some landlords will have breed restrictions for insurance reasons. Any professional training documentation would be good to have for potential landlords, but some will flat out not rent to you with a pit/mastiff mix. I'm not saying that it's right or wrong, but it's something that you should be aware of. They might say yes to a large dog in general, but no to specific breeds.
