I find it interesting Lake Travis and Lake Buchanan as of today are only 39% full.

What are sources of future water supply for Austin if drought persists?

The hit to the aquifers around Texas is hard. They are not replenishing and going down as more people move here and hook up to the system.

As down stream agriculture is cut off (just recently) and watering restrictions increase, the remaining water will go a long, long way once it is restricted to basically inside residential and existing industrial use.

Rice farmers are not due to be cut until March of next year I think I heard. Why did Austin wait so long before mandatory rules set in?

I like rice but rice and Texas does not seem like a natural fit.

I mainly eat Texas grown rice! You might be surprised to learn that you do too! As mentioned, this is not a new innovation. But 2012 does not look like a good year for it. (Rice is also grown further east in Texas which is a more natural fit for rice.)
