My husband had one when he was in California early this year. He said the burger didn't knock his socks off and he didn't get why it's so hyped, but he did really like the fries.

Honestly, I think it's split actually. It used to be everyone I knew who got relo'd from California moved straight into Steiner at my company, now it's Circle C. Not that there's anything wrong with it.

In-n-Out is the best FAST FOOD burger out there, and it's not that fast... they're good, but not what the hype has built them to, don't expect to be blown away.

The fries on the other hand, are ridiculous, and the shakes are great. It's a nice, simple, place that does 3 things (burgers, fries and shakes) and does them right.

it isnt the best burger you will ever have, but it needs to be compared to mcdonalds, wendys and burger king and it is definitely better than all those places.

The fries are also extremely good.

The majority of inbound people to Austin relocated from another Texas City. The percentage of Californians is far lower than the assumptions often characterized in these forums.

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to how many "out of towners" moving to Austin are in fact from California? Or, asked another way, what percentage of Steiner or Circle C residents do you think moved here from California?

Steve

I think this is true. We live in Circle C and out of all of our neighbors, and when my son went to the public school here, we knew something like three families that had moved from California. there are also families from Colorado, the Northeast, the Midwest, Southeast etc. However, it seems like the bulk of people that aren't Austin natives, have families from all over the state. Many of them came here for UT, graduated and stayed.

SmashBurger is really pretty good if that's what is coming. Much better than In N' Out IMHO. They've got them down in Houston.

I've got no idea, but I have a skewed perspective since a few of the companies I've worked for have big offices in California, so they end up relocating California people out here. I'd guess I know of at least 10 families that have relocated to Circle C in the last five years from California. In fact, the only people I know that live in Circle C and Steiner moved here from California.

Since Circle C and Steiner are large communities with new builds, good schools/amenities, and very good branding/marketing, it makes sense that they are the some of the first places on peoples radars when they are moving from out-of-state and doing research over the internet.

Smashburger is awesome. Easily blows away In N out and Five Guys. They're not even playing the same sport.
