Hi All,

Looking for a breakfast dining experience... I like bright spots, with a good variety of healthy, hearty, sweet and savory - good coffee is important too. Prefer unique spots to chains.

Any favorite spots out there? I live in Arboretum area if there are any local options you can recommend.

J

Probably doesn't include the healthy, but all the rest are covered. At the corner of 183 and McNeil.

NXNW has a good weekend brunch with tasty bloody marys. Not sure about coffee but they have delicious beer.

South Congress Cafe
Austin Java

We also like Waterloo on 38th because it's low key, great seating.

I don't drink coffee but the husband does and he likes all 3.

Another good brunch (Sunday only) is Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill downtown.
Moonshine® Restaurant Patio Bar and Grill :: Downtown Austin Texas Dining

But it's certainly not an everyday breakfast kind of place.

Here's a +1 for Jim's and NXNW, depending on the 'atmosphere' you're looking for. If the Z Tejas brunch down there is as good as the Avery Ranch location, that's another slightly upscale alternative(Sat and Sun). Jim's breakfast is consistent throughout the week and the cheapest of the bunch.

Can't speak about the coffee. I make it for DW every day, but I've not had a cup in years.

I intend to try something on the breakfast menu next time I go to the 24 diner at 5th and Lamar. We had lunch there today and am adding this place to my list of favorites. Had an RJ club and, while the sandwich was great overall, the addition of country ham to it was like adding a little slice of heaven.

24 Diner is one of our favorite places in Austin. Always great food.
