I put ads on CL for free moving boxes, and got lots of response. I did this 3 times, about a month apart, all with lots of response. But that was free stuff. I haven't tried to sell anything.

I sold my old car on CL. BUT, that was not in Austin, it was in a larger city. It was 2005, it was a Honda Civic with 158k miles. It sold in a heartbeat, over my asking price. Not sure how relevant that is to today but... there ya go.

I just moved to Austin last week and bought a washer, dryer and dining room set on CL. Great deals for all items. I think as a buyer, the Austin CL is awesome!

I've had the same problem trying to sell some tile I bought and ended up not using. It's priced very fair, but only one response and they never followed up.

Maybe it's just a sign of the times we're in...

It definitely moves faster in Houston but never had issues with Austin's CL- buying or selling.

It may not be priced right for the buyers that are in search of what you have.

The only time I can sell stuff on CL here is when I price my item well below what it's worth or just give it away. I wonder if most people here are either too broke and cheap to pay close to a reasonable price for working items or they make enough money to be willing to buy new but not many people in between who will pay what something is worth for a used item.

An item is only worth what someone will pay for it....where are you selling the stuff for a higher price than CL?

I've had mixed results with CraigsList............depends on what you are selling, I believe. Sold a car pretty easily. Sold a washer and dryer easily. Furniture ad is still on there with no responses.

I think furniture.........esp. certain types of furniture...........is difficult to sell. Even spoke to a woman who sells used furniture, and she said people just don't want to pay much of anything for used furniture. I'm not talking about antiques, of course.

Thus, I may be giving away some furniture real soon...........even that is not easy to do!

I browse CL frequently and find that many posts just seem incorrectly priced. If you bought a couch for $1000 a year ago, do not try to sell it for "$850 FIRM" today. Some people seem clueless about depreciation, or overly proud of what they own.
