We woke up in the middle of the night to the dog going "brrrrrf" a couple years ago and found one on the floor on my side of the bed (of course!). It was about 6 inches long and gave us both a good startle. My husband got a little overzealous with a steak knife and chopped it in half. We too wondered how the hell it got inside. Haven't seen one in the house since *knock on wood*.

Talking My Texas Centipede Story

Oh goody I get to tell my monster centipede story and I havent even been drinking.

I saw one like Hoffdano's pic when I was about 7 years old and staying at my grandparents house for the weekend outside of Coleman, this was about 38 years ago. Near as we can figure it came in under the garage door and crept down the hall to where I as, sitting on the toilet in the bathroom. The door was flush with the carpet but it crawled right underneath no problem so yea they can squeeze into a tight space pretty easy. When it crawled through I saw a foot long black centipede with a dull orange'ish head head creepy crawling for my foot and I screamed like I was caught in a wood chipper. My 78 year old Meemaw rushed into the bathroom and she started screaming while I screamed from on top of the toilet bowl. Then she grabbed some scissors out of the drawer and started cutting it to pieces. The pieces started crawling in all directions and so I screamed some more and she switched from screaming and moved on up to praying out loud asking the lord to smite this here devil, and she also grabbed some bug spray and gave it a good dousing. About a minute later the room smells like raid, the pieces are still crawling around and I was now more amazed than scared, she's still working on smiting.

We ended up tossing the moving bug pieces into a paper bag, spraying THAT with poison and then throwing the bag outside far far from the house, where it was probably dead within minutes of us quickly backing away. OR, the devil called back its minion having permanently mentally scarred an impressionable 7 year old boy and given him a creepy bug story for nights out drinking.

However, I will never, until the day I frickin die, ever ever forget the sound of those centipede sections crawling around that bug-spray soaked paper bag.
