Hey there

I am considering a move from AZ to Austin due to cost of living (and other reasons) however, I have read that property taxes in austin are high and make up for the low housing costs.

Currently, I have a 1600 sq ft house on a corner lot (not sure the amount of land, but not too large, it's AZ ;( I pay $1500 a YEAR in taxes.. az taxes are super low and we don't have state tax either.

What are the taxes in austin like?? Can anyone give me a good idea?

Thanks!!

If you look on austinhomesearch.com. They list the property taxes for the houses. They are definitely higher than where I live (my house is assessed at 190K and I pay a little under 3500 in taxes). Houses that look comparable are less expensive however. I think it will be a wash in th end for me.

Depends on the price of your house. A 175000 house will be about 4500 per year in taxes. 300K will be about 7200. It's pricey.

To pay lower property taxes you will need to be outside of Travis Country (Austin).

You won't be paying state income tax so you may not feel the difference in paying more property tax.

I live in Phoenix and yes we do have State tax here.

My property tax just went up this year from 2400-2800, that's on a valued 500.000, could sell for 699.000 if we moved now.

Debbie....

With that price of house, you'll be looking at 14000+ easy per year in property tax.
