I've heard varying things about the ease of obtaining a critical care/ED job in Austin.. I have almost 4 years neuro experience at UNC (Level 1) but no critical care yet. How challenging would it be to land such a job right now? Prefer Brackenridge since it's Level 1.

My spouse and I both work for the St. David's system (she's an RN, I'm not), and I've seen things across the gamut as far as hiring-- some people getting hired immediately, some taking a couple of months. I haven't met any non-new grads who've had a particularly tough time getting a job (compared to say, Denver) Days positions are less plentiful, although Seton has a variety of shifts, St. David's just has 12-hour night or day shifts. There are definitely lots of openings, and you're MUCH better off if you have experience...it's tough finding a job as a new grad.

Brackenridge is one of the more desirable hospitals at which to work, so you'll probably have more competition there. FWIW, St. David's was rated the #2 Best Place to Work by the Austin American-Statesman last month. I know people who love working @ both.
