I was at the Shady Grove tonight and it had rained a bit so there were a good amount of puddles. Anyhow, while we were waiting for our table I let my toddler play in them. She was not splashing....just walking through and touching the water. She loved it, but she was pretty wet afterward. There were other moms there with little ones who would not let there kids near the water and I got quite a few weird stares because of it. So, was my daughter doing something frowned upon in Texas?

I do not think people do that in texas. I've not seen many kids play or walk around in puddles.

I wouldn't mind if my kid wanted to play in the rain or whatever but maybe infront of people it would be weird.

I saw some kids walking in the rain today without umbrellas! I just closed my blinds in disgust Oh the humanity!

People have a problem with that? Yeesh. We go hiking in the rain and my preschooler makes a beeline for the puddles. The older one is more of an avoider when he has new shoes on. Hehe.

Well,
Puddles after a fresh rain can often have fire ants floating around on top, and they will climb anything they can... and then bite ...not fum.. we had it happen to our toddler and have since watched them very closely anytime they want to do this, but as for our little guy, he got bit so many times even HE tells his friends, "puddles from rain have lots of ants, I am not playing it there!"

So those concerned people may have been just kinda watchin out for the littles , I would like to think..
Cheers

I haven't heard of people not letting their kids play in puddles here... what's wrong with puddles? sounds kind of odd if you ask me.

Don't know what the stares were about...I can only guess that since some puddles can be quite gross (floating oil from the parking lot, food grease, etc), these people were thinking along those lines. And I might agree, depending on where the puddle was, except that we have had so much rain this year there is hardly any nasty stuff left on the asphalt..it has all made it's way down to Town Lake and, hopefully, downstream .

In generally, I would check the puddles before playing in them, but I usually do end up playing in them anyway. We had to practically wade into the Grove earlier this summer, but I had my Chacos on .

I think you just ran into some exceptionally uptight parents. Heck, I do whatever it takes to entertain my kids while having a meal out, so long as it's not disruptive to other guests and not totally disgusting.
