Spend a few hours looking at neighborhoods and driving thru various parts of town you are considering in your move. Make a drive down 360 and over the bridge a part of your day. Then spend a few hours downtown and south of the river. Check out the capitol and Zilker Park. Get a burger at Pterry's, Taco from Torchys, BBQ at Green Mesquite, Texmex at Gueros etc... there are lots of places unique to Austin and this website and many others have lists.

Just an update; hubby went on his day trip to Austin today and had a great time. He got to a lot of the areas he wanted to see, including SoCo, 6th street, and a bunch of others, as well as lunch at the Magnolia Cafe. Thanks so much again for all the great suggestions.
