I remember seeing on this forum a few months back how hard core the police are here. I thought I would share my first experience.

I was on Howard Lane behind Wal-Mart this morning trying to find a short cut to Parmer (it's not). A police officer on foot walks into traffic, points at me and signals for me to pull over - ( have never been pulled over on foot before, so this is odd especially since I was in the inner lane and had to cross all the way over).

I was told I was lasered at 8 mph over (uh-oh) in a school zone (double uh-oh). I didn't even see the school until right then. I hand over my WA license and insurance and my concealed carry permit (which he didn't even bother looking at but I always offer up since it tells the cop I have a clean record).

The Travis County Sheriff Deputy was nice, polite and professional. He was tapping all my info into a handheld computer (uh-oh I'm not getting out of this one). My WA plate on my car expired in MAY and I haven't put my current WA plates on (another uh-oh). I'm thinking this is going to be an expensive morning. I make small talk with the cop about his fancy computer device and he goes to his motorcycle and a printer in the back prints out my ticket (wow, as a tech geek I'm impressed). He gave me a warning (Woo-Hoo, I still have my magic touch!) and he had no concern for my expired plates, WA license, missing front plate, etc (i was stunned).

So, all in all it was about as pleasurable an experience one can have while being pulled over and I will be putting my newer WA plates on tonight. I'm not renewing them in TX until they expire next year.

If it had been a Williamson County cop the outcome would have been a lot different.

Wow, that guy was nicer than the ones who were questioning the 11 and 13 yo kids I know who were walking their cat.

I think it really depends on the cop and his mood that day. My dad's cousin (he passed away suddenly) was a cop with the sheriffs department in Tyler, and he used to tell us his favorite thing to do was pull over little red sports cars.

Yeah. They like to pull over cars that they look good standing next to. At least that's what the guy at traffic school, who was a CHP <insert score here>, said.

another_hot_day, I'm not sure how debatable. In the 3 years I've lived in Williamson county, I haven't been pulled over. I will say that out Code Enforcement Officer is generally hated by everyone here though. She and my husband got into an argument once over a sign I had by our fence. It wasn't even in easement territory, it was in my yard. She just made us move it. My sister had a hard time with one over sparklers over the 4th, and she's lived here over 10 yrs. and that was her 1st experience dealing with a Hutto cop. He was an *** too.
As for the cars, yep...I think I'd agree with you He probably secretly just liked red sports cars.

There are quite a few motorcycle cops who find a shady spot on the shoulder of an otherwise sunny road (Duval, between mopac and 183, for example). They park the bike and 'gun' people coming down the road. Then they step out and put the 'halt' hand in the air. Real easy for them, and much cooler, so I can't say I blame them .
