I'm always looking for a new place to study, so I figured the people of City-Data would probably have some good suggestions. I'm looking for a good coffee shop that is cozy and designed somewhat around studying. I tend to like ones that have a homey feel, with old couches and coffee tables, and bonus points if they're converted from an old house. So far my favorites have been the Cafe Medici in Clarksville and I just discovered Genuine Joe's. Any other suggestions?

Once Over Coffee Bar on South First/Live Oak is my go-to, and will be until Medici decides to open a south location. I don't believe it's a converted house, but it's very homey feeling with a GREAT patio overlooking Bouldin Creek...I don't know what 'designed around studying' is supposed to look like, but there are people studying, people working, and people conversing.

I'm not sure how much you care about the coffee, but their equipment is top-notch and make great espresso drinks that can hang with Medici or Houndstooth. Cheaper than both of the latter, too, + they discount for paying cash and bringing your own mug, too

Downtown you may like Halcyon. It is a small old building with couches, patios and lots of fun people to meet. It is in the Warehouse District on 4th and Lavaca. But people do tend to hit it after a night in the clubs and bars so not always all that great for studying.

South and East Austin are full of places like you described. If those parts of town interest you, just throw a pebble in any direction there and you'll find something like you are looking for. What part of town do you live in?

For North Austin one of my favorite places is Epoch. It is 24 hours. It is a lot better for studding than many other IMO. It doesn't have couches or as homely feel as you suggested. More of a cafe feel. But I really like it, and it is one of the few reason I can find to visit north Austin. That is where I usually meet up with my North Austin friends. I also like the other people who work and hangout there.

Summermoon Coffee on South 1st, almost to 71. It's small, cute and quiet... and they have one of the best lattes I've ever tasted (half-moon latte... mmmm!)

I also really like Cherrywood Coffeehouse on 38 1/2 St, but not sure it would be optimum for studying. It's been very busy/ loud on the times I've visited, although I only go there on the weekend because I live south.

Agree with the previous... Flightpath is only a few blocks north on Duval, and I find it far more hospitable for studying than Quacks.

Bennu Coffee on the East side! It's 24 hours and set up for optimal studying. Food, drinks, comfy chairs, outlets everywhere, tables if that's your thing, and typically classical music (though I did hear the Lord of the Rings soundtrack last time I was in there). Sometimes you have to fight someone for a spot, but it's totally worth it.
