don't take anything from city-data with any value... not even from me.

i'd say there are jerks in austin and just as crappy as anywhere else but in austin, there still seems to be some strands of small town feel where everyone for the most part gets along and respects your space and boundaries. but even the nicest towns has its share of crap.

Understood, but Austin couldn't be as bad as South Florida. It is a freakin mess over here. People are really nasty. If they don't have anything bad to say/do to you, they ignore the crap out of you!

Austitude is when you hear austinites brag to ridiculous heights about Austin. Like, every other city in Texas is inferior or there is nothing outside the city of Austin but a dark void. No other place in Texas has live bands, there are no clubs, natural areas, lakes, etc.... Austin is a great place to live but I love many of the towns and cities of Texas and don't think Austin holds the patent on everything Texan.

Oh I see, like nothing else matters but Austin? Well Austin must be a nice city if they think that way. It is also important to keep an open mind.

I hear what you're saying about south FLA. I have to go out there for work about every 6 weeks and I always find myself telling my wife some story about nasty attitudes out there.

You'll find a few miserable people out here, as you will everywhere, but not to the extent you see out there.

Conversely, some like to publicly air their grievances/complaints about Austin at every turn, and anyone who pushes back at all is labeled as having "Austintude"

To answer your question, I've lived in/visited many cities small and large, and I think Austin has noticeably friendlier, happier, more down-to-earth and all around more pleasant people than the average place. Many things about Austin can get over hyped, sure, but nice people is one of the most positive things about the place. I think this applies to Texas in general, too
