My 15-year-old wants to take driver's ed. I'm finding that most of the programs are 4:30-6:30 in the evenings which won't work because school gets out at 4:15 and she has afterschool activities. Anyone have experience with a local school with better or flexible hours? Also, is one more affordable than others? Seems like most cost $350 to $400. I'm on the north side off Techridge/35.

Or does anyone have experience with doing the online state-approved course? May be a good option because of her schedule, but I admit I don't particularly want to teach my teen to drive in the new car I bought three months ago.

I can't see how an online course would do much of anything. Any decent driving course has to have a practical component. Reading can be a great supplement but I would never rely on it entirely.

$350 to $400 is cheap as an insurance policy against your teenager trashing your car!

The online class is actually just the "classroom" part as in the stuff on the written permit test, which I would think could easily be covered online. You submit an application to the state to be a parent teacher for the driving portion, and it comes with lessons you have to cover, and you log driving hours and so forth. More like homeschool I suppose.
