I'm a single 27 year old guy, active and friendly, looking to make the move from Brooklyn to Austin around June 1st. I visited last year and fell in love with the city, but would like some advice on walkable areas. I own a car and know that I'll obviously be using more than up here in Brooklyn, but I'm looking for parts of town where I can walk to some restaurants and bars, maybe a grocery store as well. I'll be doing the craigslist search for rooms/shares so I just want to try and narrow down my search a bit.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Budget? Downtown is very walkable if you can afford it. So is South Congress.

I'm hoping to keep my rent for a room in a shared apartment under $700/month. Does that price me out of those areas?

Depends on how many roommates you plan to get and how big an apartment you want.

Out of curiosity, what made you want to come to Austin? Do you know people here?

There are 3 of us total here in a 3br 1ba place that's about 1,000 sq ft, what I've seen so far on craigslist it appears that places are definitely bigger down there.

I only know 2 people down there, but I visited a few times and love the city. NYC will always be home to me, but at this point in my life I'm looking for some more space, a lot more nature and a bit of a slower pace.
