My husband and I are moving to the Austin(ish) area. He took a job in Temple and I will be working in Austin, we think Georgetown is beautiful and are looking for a good "inbetween". Anyway, we are tattooed, very very very tattooed, in our 30's and our children are the 4 legged kind.

Will georgetown be too conservative for us? Or are there a few pockets of the "Austin funkiness" out that way too?

Given the 75-mile separation between Temple and Austin I'd live in Georgetown either way and if anybody gives you a hard time about who you are, screw 'em.

in other words: if it were me, traffic would trump most any other concern, and Georgetown is close enough to Austin that you'll be able to find all kinds of people without going too far, even if they may not live on your street. But others on the board know much more about Georgetown than I do!

sincerely,
conservative-but-not-too-much-for-you

Georgetown is also a college town, remember. I've seem tattoos around (when it occurred to me to notice them, but they have to be pretty obvious for that to happen (though it seems that yours may be). If you're concerned, check out the area around Southwestern University and see what you think.

Also remember that a lot of people who live in Georgetown commute to Austin, so it's not like they've never seen weird before.

You'd probably be better off being closer to downtown Georgetown on the East side of I-35 and further away from Sun City. As THL said, you would be closer to the University.

I don't think Matthew McConaughey(shaved head) and Guy Fieri(tats galore) had any trouble while filming "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" at the landmark Monument Cafe in G-town .

If you can be OK with all the lavender hair and walkers, I think you'll be OK. I mean, those folks can't see all that well anyway.

Most people will be cool but no matter how liberal you think the area is it's still Texas and at some point you will be reminded of that, hopefully in a pleasant way.

It's Georgetown, not someplace tiny like Mineola, El Campo or Sweeney where someone may have an issue and be vocal about it and then again, even in Texas it's 2012 and most people nowadays aren't really THAT backwards anymore. East of 35 in the old downtown area would be cool.

Okay cool, sounds like it won't be any worse than living in Colorado Springs, I get commented at once a week here and I'm used to it.
