Hi, I am a single woman moving to Austin and wondering if anyone knows of any gay friendly neighborhoods downtown. Either that or just a safe neighborhood for a single woman (late 20's) to live....I am used to living in Boston's setting and like being 'in the city'. I would prefer to be near grocery stores/coffee shops/etc... Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

I would like to rent in Austin. I will be working just slightly south of the city - but would prefer to stay in the city..... not pay more than 850 but live in a 1 bedroom. Is that possible in Austin?

schiffy, have you already relocated to Austin? My partner and I are also relocating to Austin from north centrsl Phoenix (ultimate urban living) in November, and are unsure where to look. I'll ave a job in thenorth central district, so please let me know if you've found any websites or anything helpful. We're looking for a small house or townhome to rent (we have to small dogs, so we need a bit of a yard).

schiffy, that rent is not going to get you much downtown or close to downtown. check out smallplanetguide's neighborhood profiles on the following areas that I think would work best for you (except maybe for pricing might be tough to find): Downtown Austin, Clarksville, Travis Heights and SoCo.

heytherefromaz, you might want to check out Hyde Park but stay on the north side of it because the south side is heavily a student area
