The rents from what I am hearing will be you biggest hurdle.
A co-worker in Round Rock was rental house shopping the past few weeks. He found a smaller 3 bedroom for $1250.00 his 2 bdr apt was close to $1100.

He said that every house that was available usually had a crowd to see it and he had to be prepared to write a check on the spot. He learned this after losing out on several rental homes while he thought about it.

The rental market here in the Hill Country is not quite as hot but there is just not much available and what is available tends to move quickly, there are very few options.

You have friends here, are young and mobile. Go for it, I currently have the attitude of what the heck, what is there to lose? It's an adventure!
We left a 20 year life in Reno for this new adventure and while I get homesick, I have no doubt this is one of the best opportunities for us in the current economic climate. This area is thriving in comparison, its really hard to describe but it has a vibe that is just pleasant, content etc.

Thank you so much for your replies, you have been very helpful Bonus for me that you are also from Reno! We're not going to be looking for a house, an apartment that isn't directly downtown will be good enough for us, so hopefully that will make it a little easier on us, but we're expecting it to be competitive, which I'm also assuming the job market will be like.

We've outweighed our own personal pro's and con's and have beeen researching the area - we're totally going to move there by the end of next month We're very excited.

And thank you for the positive encouragement!

A year into our adventure, we left Marble Falls and moved to the burbs of Austin (country life is overrated!) LOL
I have discovered I actually LIKE the humidity. Bizarre, I know but the harsh dry wind of Northern Nevada is not something I miss. My sinus's and skin are much happier here and honestly, here in Austin, while yes, it is more humid than the N. Nevada desert, it really is not stifling like other places can be.

Other than the extremely hot days and the fact that summer is 6 months long which is a bit much, overall, I really like the weather here in Austin
