Hi - moving into a house in Avery Ranch Far West on June 25, 2012. Does anyone have insight as to which electricity company is the cheapest/best? Any help is appreciated.

Coupl'a' things...Avery Ranch is in the city of Austin city limits proper...west Avery Ranch is at least two miles(more, depending) from Round Rock. More to your point, 'we' don't get to choose our electric provider in Avery Ranch. You are 'stuck' with PEC for better or worse.

Welcome to the neighborhood!

Texas Public Utility Commission has a website that will tell you if you have a choice and if so has a widget to compare offers:

Power to Choose: Compare Offers Now

I have been pretty happy with Cirro Energy, at 8¢ a kWH, no tiers, no peak charges or hidden fees, and locked in for a year...its a pretty good deal for me.

I use Direct Energy for RR and my rates/monthly bills aren't too bad - but then again, I don't run my AC 24/7 either!

I think 10scoachrick reply is correct. Unless ARFW is so far from the original AR that it is out of PEC's service area you will not have a choice. PEC is a Co-op and co-ops don't have to allow alternative providers.

Not to worry, we never found PEC's pricing to be that out of line in the 7 years that we lived in AR. We had friends in other areas that did have a choice and learned that most of them were unhappy with their alternative choices once the "honeymoon" period was over.
