Thanks Sxrckr. Those sound pretty good. The only thing is I've heard that Houston is really conservative, even moreseo than Dallas. Would you agree?

Oh, no no no. Well, maybe the suburbs, not the city. But that's the way all of the Texas metros are, even Austin.
Houston's very libertarian, generally. Pro-business. Not conservative, not liberal. Some other tidbits that may surprise you -- their mayor is openly gay, but is a fiscal conservative. Houston also just topped a recent list for "coolest US cities" and the reasoning/factors I saw behind that ranking actually made a lot of sense, much to the chagrin of some people (especially Austin and Dallas news bloggers).

FWIW, Obama carried Harris and I think Dallas counties. Though political ideology really shouldn't influence where you choose to live. I'm a centrist, and the attorneys I work with are conservative. Politics aren't usually brought up and if they are, each person's views are respected. No one in this state has bothered me because of my political views.

Totally agree.
Generally in Texas, political viewpoints are not shoved down your throat or required to be a certain way lest you be an outcast, as in the northeast US and parts of the west coast. Thank God....

That sounds good to me. I prefer not to bring up politics at all. I guess it's just important to me that I can find people that are accepting of lgbt people and aren't going to judge me because I don't go to church.
