I give kudos to all who responded to earlier inquiries about restaurants, many of them were quite good. Some of my family members write columns for foreign magazines and they will say good things.

That being said, are there any Afghan restaurants here? I'm coming up empty on google. I could use an ashak dumpling plate with plenty of mint chutney and a side of doh, finished off with a firnee!

No. Dallas, Houston, yes, but not Austin.

I'd love for there to be one. Didn't realize there were some in Dallas and Houston, and I'll be making a trip to try them. Love that food!

On my block we have the greatest pizza joint..run by Afghans. There is also a great place to eat that is run by Iraqis - The woman are wonderful when they are in- the men are honest and civilized- They are a good culture...and they pride them selves on service and quality- They asked me one evening why I have not been by recently..I told them that I had been too broke to eat out- The Iraqi said- "don't worry about the money" - and he meant it....The last guys that were in there- hated the pubic and went bankrupt.

I wish there was one (or 5) as well. I had Afghan food once and it was amazing.

Start one! An Afghan restaurant run by a white Catholic dad from Alabama would fit with the "Keep Austin Weird" mantra
