I'm new to the North-Central Austin area. I'm looking for a nice group of guys to play basketball with. Any parks in the area around 2222? I enjoy competitive games, but not interested in overly aggressive games where people act like they're in the NBA and hack everybody all the time and talk a lot of trash.

Thanks...

There are a lot of pickup basketball games that go on here in River Place at 2222 west of 360. My next door neighbor plays twice a week in Sun Tree Park. If it's not too far a drive for you I can ask him when they play.

It has been years (dating back to my good knees), but there used to be games at Doss elementary's outdoor court (top of the hill, one block south of Far West Blvd). Fairly laid back, but always the chance for one of the regulars to get cranky once in a while, and then there are those newcomers .

NW Park (off of Greenlawn) has (had?) lights, so we played there after the daylight savings change made it dark too early. Little rougher crowd, though....somebody's car backfired once and most people hit the deck .

Just off MoPac and Enfield is a little court that had some pretty level headed games. Also, ACC off of Metric used to have pick up play that was pretty calm. The trick is to demonstrate your 'acceptablity', and then get invited to play with one of the myriad groups that has access to a church gym. Pretty strictly invite only, as most of those guys are getting to use to court due to being in someone's good graces.

Again, this is all dated info . I have retired to volleyball...easier on the knees, played in air conditioning, and many more cute girls (my wife insists that is why I play ).

There is a large group of guys that play every evening at Ramsey Park (44th & Rosedale). My husband has been playing there for 2 years and loves it because the guys are all really decent, but not overly aggressive.

Northwest Recreation Center @ 2913 Northland Dr./2222 has noon games from 11:30-1:00 Mon, Tues & Thursday. There is a $5 dollar drop-in fee or a $30/session fee thats good for two months of play. Games are competitive and everyone can appreciate an indoor court this summer. Stop by.
