I was looking for information about historic street names in Austin, but became frustrated in trying to find this information on-line anywhere, so I put this together myself.
Listing of Austin, Texas historic streets named for trees. These streets run East-West. They are now mostly numbered streets.
As depicted on Austin Street Map 1872 P. De Cordova— http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/arc/maps/images/map0929b.jpg
Willow (still named)
1st -- Water (Ceasar Chavez)
2nd -- Live Oak
3rd --Cypress
4th -- Cedar
5th -- Pine
6th -- Pecan
7th -- Bois de Arc
8th -- Hickory
9th -- Ash
10th -- Mulberry
11th -- Mosquite [sic]
12th -- College Ave.
13th -- Peach
14th -- Walnut
15th -- North Ave.
16th -- Cherry
17th -- Linden
18th -- Chestnut
19th -- Magnolia Ave. (MLK)
According to the Austin History Center, the names of the downtown numbered streets were changed from their original tree names in 1897 or 1898. However, as depicted on one 1890 map, they are shown with alternative names of trees and numbers. http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/arc/maps/images/map0926e.jpg
From Austin City Directory 1885-86 map by Rueben W. Ford-- http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/arc/maps/images/map2283.jpg
This map depicts streets farther North than the earlier map.
21st -- Elm
22nd -- Palmetto
24th -- Orange
W. 26th – Maple
E. 261/2 -- Apple
27th -- Laurel
29th – Sycamore
Poplar is also a short, East-West street in the same area still bearing that name, which is a more recent addition.

Thanks, I had noticed that on that old map also. It certainly does make it easier to find say Cherry street, since they were not even in alphabetical order as originally named.

Also, Hickory Street Bar & Grill and Cedar Street Courtyard. Any other businesses or events use the old street names?

I coulda sworn Live Oak Brewing Co was on 2nd, but apparently they're on 5th. :/

Lots of Pecan Street ones. Like Old Pecan Street Cafe on Trinity near 6th, Bess Bistro on Pecan.

Cypress Vanguard is a jewelry story on 3rd (Cypress) between the convention center and I-35. Mulberry which is in the 360 condos @ 3rd is named for the street the founders moved from in Manhattan.

On 8th there is the cafe and an apartment complex called Hickory Hill Apartments.

I think that is all I have.

Alas, Hickory Street B&G is no more. It closed last year to make way for a development project.

Sorry. I wasn't trying to be sarcastic or rude or anything. Was just saying that it is still open. I didn't want anyone to get the wrong impression that it wasn't there anymore.
