A musician friend of mine who's in a very successful Austin rock band (sorry, I can't name names) told me that he's heard that Ruta Maya will be closing this year. Does anyone know if this rumor is true? I did a Google search on the subject but couldn't find any sources to confirm whether this is true or not.

Wasn't the owner of Ruta Maya in some legal trouble recently?

What? Are you maybe thinking of Jovita's, which was closed after arrests on accusations that heroin was being sold at this Mexican restaurant?

Ruta Maya's sells that other drug... caffeine.

According to this discussion, it is just moving.

Quote:
According to the folks there this morning, it's moving over to the other side of Congress on Alpine or somewhere around South First Street and Ben White.
I'd heard rumors of it closing, but apparently it's just a move...

Looks like it is closing.

Ruta Maya Closing? Yes, but …: … it may not be, like, a forever thing. - Chronolog Blog - The Austin Chronicle
