My 17 month old is obsessed with fish and we'd like to find an aquarium somewhere in the area. I can't find anything-- am I missing something or are there indeed no aquariums?

There is nothing! The closest I know of is the aquarium part of the SA zoo and the Dallas Aquarium, which is awesome. You can always go to a pet store we used to go to Petco to get our fix

The closest aquarium I can think of is in Houston. San Antonio has Sea World which has an aqaurium....oh, Cabela's has a nice sized aquaurium that would hold a seventeen month olds interest if you wanted to stay close to home. Cabela's also has many large extotic and wild, very realistic animals and birds around the store in scenic-like displays.

I think Waco might have one also.

Houston, San Antonio and Corpus have aquariums.

The Corpus Christi aquarium is good: Home

For my money, it's better than going to Dallas and more "vacation-like" than Houston.

I'll have you know this was very helpful and we did indeed go to Cabela's! It sure wasn't a place we thought we'd ever find ourselves but it is pretty interesting and he was very excited to see the fish! Thank you!

I think I'll put Corpus on our to do list!

How could no one mention Sea World in San Antonio? It is one of my favorite places on Earth! =) I wish I could live @ SA's Sea World.

Edit: just saw luksky did.

Too bad Aquarena Springs, with Ralph the Famous Swimming Pig has gone away! Not really an aquarium - but certainly one of the most unique water amusement parks in the U.S.

We were once at this Aquarium restaurant at Kemah (just E/SE of Houston).... it was a restaurant but had a huge aquarium in the entire center of the place. I've never seen anything like it, it was great. It was right by a marina.
