I much prefer magnolia to kerbey lane. I usually get eggs benedict at magnolia.

I've lived here forever and I fail to get the Chuy's love. As you said, food is a disappointment - there's SO many places to get better Mexican and Tex-Mex.

Atmosphere and cheapness. That's why it's doing so well as a chain:
For Chuy's, big jumps in revenue, profits

Have you tried the Original Pancake House? Parmer & Metric. I just have two words for you: Real Butter.

Wow. Just checked out the Original Pancake House menu. Looks great! I've got my brunch plans now for this weekend!

I didn't see it on the online menu, but OPH has a 'skillet' meat, cheese, potato scramble that is fantastic. Sounds like it would be w-a-y too much to eat; but, I could still leave room for a pancake or two.

Don't be in a hurry there...the wait can be a bit long during weekend rush. They move it along pretty briskly, however.

Not too sure the Original Pancake House qualifies as a local Austin icon in the same way as Magnolia Cafe and Kerbey Lane do, which is how I understood the original post given its evoking of musical icons. Jim's comes closer in that at least it's a Texas-born, not Oregon-born, chain.

This is nothing against the Original Pancake House, which I have eaten at in various places, by the way. Quite tasty!

Yes! That was the original intent. Though it has been nice to get some new recommendations! I'll need to make my way to Jim's. OPHs are all over the country. I'm sure I've eaten at one somewhere or another on some road trip!
