I'd love it if a hockey team came here It became one of my favorite sports once we were in Denver for a while. Next to football there, it's one of the favorite sports.

Why on Earth would we want a major league (or even a minor league) team in Austin???? What an absurd thought!

Too late about the minor league teams, they are already here (Unless your post is dripping with sarcasm)

Oh ha! I meant to type in "stadium"... I think it's a crazy idea to raise taxes to build stadiums for sports here. Austin has so many other awesome things ... Why add a major league team & a stadium for it?

Having grown up in the D.C. area I went to professional hockey, basketball, and football games with my family. Honestly I don't really miss it. The ticket prices were high, then you have to put up with $7 beers and $15 parking only to sit in a seat with a view that makes you miss watching it on TV. And using local hotel or sales tax to subsidize a private business is a no go in itself; we don't to help a Jerry Jones-type egomaniac build his own personal Taj Mahal.............But this does bring up the question as to what type of entertainment/recreation/arts should we promote here?

My first guess would be to promote music and film as the industry is starting to leave California.........Having just visited Sydney, Australia I could see how that single building, the Danish-designed Sydney Opera House, gave that city an identity and self-confidence that is hard to translate into dollars but is nevertheless invaluable. It would be great if we could harness our creativity and individualism into a likewise constructive, albeit smaller scale, outlet.
