Does anyone know about grinder pumps? We are renting and this is the third time the grinder pump has quit. The first two times the previous renters put plastic bags and other items down the toilet. Now it seems the pump is damaged again. We have been careful what flush. This is so frustrating, not to mention expensive for the owners. We live in an older house in Northeast Austin with a grinder pump in the backyard. We feel sorry for the home owners, but are tired of the problem. Would a line installed to the main city sewer line be more cost effective for the owners?

I had never heard of one until we built our current house (NW Austin). No problems yet, but I asked about connecting to the main sewer line and was told it would not be cost effective.

It quit cause it is probably clogged with whatever is put down there. It is not expensive to fix, but disgusting, if you just do it yourself. Pretty easy to do.

it is a pump that is in a 6ft reservoir in the ground outside your house. It is there because the house is in a low point in the street. It grinds your sewage up and shoots it to the sewer line. So it's house--->grinder pump/lift station----->sewer line.
It's all about gravity, apparently. Hate having one, but what can we do? Nada. Well, we can make sure we don't throw trash down the toilet.
