State of medical facilities is not that great in austin. A research medical school in austin will be a great great addition. Is everyone thinking as me for this issue..

I am, medical care in Austin is really bad. Good doctors are hard to get appointments with the rest treat you like they are doing you favor for being their patient. I lived in an area with a top research Hospital/Med School and it was like night and day compared to here.

Great doctors, actually an overabundance of doctors. We do not need more taxes to fund a medical school. What guarantee is there that those graduates would actually stay here? MONEY GRAB.

Voting NO. Don't need it. Don't trust the group backing it. Very satisfied with medical care in the area.

100 Million on an underground tunnel to divert a stream
120 Million on a lending library in the era of the iPad
1/2 Billion dollars on a medical school when Texas already has several including the world class Baylor
but we'll designate a building built after many of us were born as Historic even though it holds zero architectural interest, and isn't under any threat whatsoever from redevelopment (which happens to house many high powered political types who will get an incredibly generous tax break).

Yeah, I feel completely confident that the current leadership has kept the public trust sacred. . .

I disagree on Waller Creek - I think that will enhance downtown, and it will benefit many when it takes shape and becomes a nice place to spend an evening without getting involved in the mess that is 6th Street.

I also disagree with regards to the library. I think the Austin system is making good progress with e-books and, in any event, it will be a building close to downtown that is publicly accessible rather than another condo tower. Oh, and I love libraries.

I think you're right with regards to the med. school. You make an excellent point with regards to Baylor, and if we all took your ever so slightly wider view, then perhaps a $500M UT Austin med school wouldn't seem so attractive.

And you are, of course, completely correct with regards to the Westgate Tower. It's a cool enough building, but it really doesn't need a tax break.

I hope everyone realizes the proposed property tax increase does NOT help pay for a medical school. It increases the funding for medical care programs not related to the medical school. The other entities that want the medical school (UT and private) say they won't build the medical school unless Prop 1 passes.

I am voting no. 5 cents is a big increase.
