In case you did not know that.
For those of you living here, long time residents, you know what I mean.

Also, for Demographic Junkies, as myself....same thing happened in San Antonio.
East to NE. Same exact thing. Kinda weird... Gentrification...migration....and all the nice, rich folks are a'movin out. Replaced by po'folks...who, unfortunately, are stressed working (bad) jobs and their kids are ....running wild.

Agree?

I think you have it backwards. The people who are displacing long time East Austin residents ARE the young and wealthy. Plus I wouldn't refer to those with less money as "po'folks" with "wild children" and "bad" jobs. Its very degrading. My family is very wealthy, and you don't see me referring to the working class in that manner. I hope you were joking.

Tone aside, I think he means that the displaced east austin residents are moving to the north east...

Without a doubt as the inner city becomes more and more desireable and rents/prices go up, those who can't afford it will move further out.

When I saw the title to this thread, I thought you meant Northeast Austin is the new center for East Austin-style gentrification. Even Windsor Park and University Hills are getting populated by yuppies and hipsters now.

When we bought our first house for $23,000 in Windsor Hills just north of Rundberg (which had just been paved) & Dessau in 1971, it was only the 5th house built in that development. We were way out in the boonies.

When my brother bought his first house in Crestview (on Piedmont) for $6,000 in 1959, it was on the north edge of town - there wwas a working farm behind his back fence.

Places do change.

If you are on the West side of Dessau Road at that location you are in zip code 78753 //www.city-data.com/zips/78753.html

You can see the demographics for those two areas at the links provided.

78753, which includes part of the IH35 corridor and part of E. Rundburg Lane, had the second highest total number of crimes in the City in 2010. It was also second highest in the number of Aggrevated Assaults, Robberies and Rapes.
