Hi there,

I have two dogs and currently live in Virginia where Lyme disease is rampant.
I grudgingly use an anti-tick/flea topical monthly on my dogs but hate the idea of it even though the vets claim it is safe.
Anyway, if not for Lyme disease, I would probably use a more natural repellent for fleas.
Is Lyme disease and/or ticks a problem in Austin?

It exists, but not what I would call a problem. Someone told me once that the fire ants wiped out most of the disease by killing the tics....if that is true, then fire ants are good for something.

Trainwrecked is right. I've heard that as well. And also, on a gardening show, they said those big striped lizards that you find in your yard have an enzyme in their blood that kills the lyme disease in the tick, so if you have those lizards, try and attract more. I know a few people who give their pets Sentinel. It's a pill they take every once in a while that repels ticks and fleas.
