Hello all! My friend and I are thinking of relocating somewhere new for a few years from California. I have been to San Antonio many times, as I have family there, but have only seen Austin with the whole crew in tow (aka no nightlife etc). I just wanted to get a little info! What's the nightlife scene like? Are there nice lounge type places, or are most of the bars/nightlife scenes more laid back? Also, what areas are good for young singles to live in? I know downtown, but any specific areas of downtown or other parts of the city? We are used to high price tags coming from California, so suggestions for higher price ranges are fine. Thanks so much.

I'm down with country music! I also like the occasional place that plays hip hop/house music for dancing.

FYI - Austin really doesn't have much country, much more indie rock (singer/songwriter) stuff, when it comes to local live music. Obviously, when the bigger acts come through, you get a broader mix. There's just about every possible kind of nightlife here, if you can't find a party in Austin, you won't find one anywhere - but it is completely different from what you have in NorCal.

That said, I'd strongly recommend that you visit a few times, and at least once in the dead heat of summer. Coming from the Bay, you have no frame of reference for 95 degrees at midnight in June/July/August.

Just for the sake of conversation, you've posted this same question in multiple forums - do you have a job you're looking at in Austin, or is it just to come out and party for a few years?

Thank you for the info!! I have been in the summers-brutal, definitely something to consider, but I think I would be ok with it. As of now there are several different jobs in different states. I have looked at the industry I'm interested in and basing locations off of that. I am just wanting a change of scenery. One large decision will be based on the jobs, but I am also wanting to make sure I would fit into a place etc.
