Hi All, we rented a house with an aerobic septic system that has a "motor" above ground. Since being around other houses I noticed that our "motor" runs all the time... is this supposed to happen? I have seen houses who's motor does not run all the time and so I am thinking - despite what our landlord says - that this is not normal.... thoughts?

Traditional anaerobic systems have no pumps or only pump occasionally. Aerobic systems have slow turning aeration disks which run continuously.

Aerobic systems are used in areas where anaerobic systems won't work.

What you are hearing is the air pump that keeps the tank aerated. Perfectly normal and if you do not hear it, there is a problem.
