As I was scanning thru my onscreen channel guide I noticed there were multiple channels added to each block of channels at first I was excited until I realized it was a message sponsored by my cable provider stating that due to Newscorp wanting a increase of 25% we may lose all their networks. I am so sick of these guys fighting every time new programming ie new channels or existing programing comes up for contract renewal. We always get held hostage over their greed

Default Wish I had more choices

Outside of going with a satellite provider, TWC is our only option here in Oak Hill. Can't stand TWC. Poor, inconsistent customer service, high prices and trickery, and REALLY poor cable TV service! (We've had our HD box replaced literally 5 times in 7 months, and still aren't happy with the one we have).

Wish AT&T covered our area!

I am very upset with Time Warner...I know, what else is new?....because I can no longer use a cable ready TV to watch CNBC. Now, I have to use a cable box, free for a year, and then...of course, they'll charge me. Argh. Wish I had ATT Uverse!

It really is great, never going back. (Hint hint to TWC: have terrible service, people will talk about it)

Unfortunately, our neighborhood isn't wired for Uverse.....yet.

You have to use a box for each TV with Uverse and they do charge you a rental fee for it. The only reason that I switched from Time Warner to Uverse was because of the poor quality DVR boxes that Time Warner used at the time. Otherwise, they are normally pretty comparable.

Actually you do have an option on the box, just Google Cable card Box . the feds have forced the cable companies to allow us the option known as a cable card. Your Cable operator will provide it if requested , you insert it a box you purchase and you will not have to rent their box or DVR.

That's a great piece of information!
Where would you buy a box like that?

TIVO's support cable cards as well as some of the newer televisions. However, be aware that most providers charge between a $2 to $4 per month rental fee for each cable card and to take advantage of a dual tuner TIVO, you might need two cable cards per box. There is also a chance that you won't get all the channels with a cable card and also won't get extra features like on demand from the cable provider (a TIVO would have alternate ways to get streaming content). Lastly, cable company support for cable cards has historically been poor and companies like AT&T Uverse do not offer cable cards at all.

I wouldn't go the cable card route unless you are somewhat "techy" yourself.
