I'm looking for a place to live in Austin for 1-2 years. I'm a female, no pets, looking to live alone in a small studio/efficiency/1 bedroom apartment where I can feel fairly safe. I do not mind living around rowdy college students but my budget is pretty limited. Ideally I would like something under $600 but I know that's really difficult and I am prepared to go up if necessary.

I'm married but my husband will be living and working in Temple. A place with relatively easy access to I35 would be nice since I'll be going there for weekends. I'm a med student so I will be spending a lot of time around Breckenridge Hospital, Childrens hospital, etc. I'm fine with living further north (not south, dont want to add to travel time to Temple) to get cheaper rent but an idea of commute time would be appreciated.

Hopefully I'm not missing any necessary information. Any help would greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi!
i am relocating next month to Austin from Phoenix with my employer- and I am in a similar situation. I have done so much research and I tried with three apartment locators-they could not find my anything under $795 for a studio at IMT Monterrey Ranch. If you can look toward North Austin- you can find better pricing though. South is more expensive!

My advice would be to look for a roomshare situation. If you use the Search function here to dig into the archives, you'll find that Austin vacancy rate is extremely low, and consequently rents have been pushed very high and are still rising. A studio where you would feel safe noerth of campus is probably going to run $700/mo plus $100 utilities.

I have not tried to use it to complete a lease, but https://www.padmapper.com/ shows quite a few options available in N. Central Austin. It the leads from that map based website are not fruitful please let me know so I can stop recommending it to people.

A few others I know of but have not needed to use are listed below.

Austin Apartments For Rent and other Austin Rentals — Trulia.com

Everything Austin Apartments - A map of apartments in Austin, Texas

I hope these are helpful.

Austin is pretty a pretty low violent crime city, but I would still recommend you stay away from the Rundberg Lane are and the IH-35 corridor in North Austin. //www.city-data.com/blogs/blog3...me-austin.html

Lightbulb For another resource...

Try Craig's list, you may find something that will suit.

Craigslist is complete garbage in just about all TX markets. It's cluttered with fake apartments and listings created by lazy locator services. Save yourself the time and don't bother.
