This is still a decent area, right? It's been a long time since I've been out that way, but I've noticed some nice houses listed online around there and I'm considering.

I couldn't care less about schools.

Did you want to ask a more subjective question? Just kidding...

Decent is a very subjective word just like "good" and trying to compare this area as "better" than another area. It might help to say what you're looking for in a neighborhood and then people could answer if they feel this neighborhood matches what you're looking for.

I'm not exactly keen on living that far north, but I'm sick of living in a shoe box, and in WB, it seems that I'd at least have easy access to Mopac and (god forbid) I-35. What is the commute like to the UT area? I would guess/hope that it's not as terrible as it would be from McNeill/Anderson Mill (besides, I want to stay in Travis County).

Well, I wouldn't write 35 off if you live up there. The speed limit is now 70mph from Wells Branch down 35 until you get to 2222/290 and traffic going south in the morning seems to start getting bad after 183 and worse after 2222/290 and awful at around the 35th exit. If you're going to UT, you can always hop off at 2222 and make your way via surface streets the rest of the drive. So, the first chunk of the drive from WB to 183 interchange can be relatively quick.
