I'm a newbie so this list will evolve but so far:

1.) Trails, parks, greenbelts. Biking, hiking, running. I'll work off my Ohio fat in no time!
2.) Music. Any and every night of the week. Always.
3.) Plants. Coming from the north, I'm thrilled by the variety of plants you can grow. Several over-lapping zones. Not to mention I can keep many of my house plants outside most of the year. They are thriving here!
4.) Food. Contrary to some people who complain, I'm loving the food here. It seems the restaurant scene is really starting to round out and it will just get better I think
5.) Signage. I love the vintage, neon signs that are so abundant in Austin. This is so reminiscent of the Route 66 era. The good artful designs of the 1950s. I've seen this style in some of the vintage-inspired architecture as well.

Sorry, gotta add one more: Dog friendliness! Getting an apartment in most cities with a dog is tough(I know, I was a landlord), but finding restaurants/coffee houses that will let you bring your dog???? Forget about it...

LOL! It is pretty interesting! I was a little sceptical the first time I went, but now no trip to Austin is complete without going to Ginny's on a Sunday afternoon. I still haven't won the $100.00 cash but I will keep trying!

I would say that dogs would be the equivalent of Calcutta's cow in Austin........omnipresent and somewhat sacred, and just about welcome everywhere..........it can be a little bit weird, but all in all its a good thing!

Love that thing! You know it came from (or at least designed for) a semiconductor fab? They use them to wash hands at the fabs, too....

Used to love wasting an afternoon playing disc golf down at Pease Park, with maybe a volleyball game thrown in for good measure...
