My waistline isn't going to get any smaller if DW keeps bringing home the cookie butter! The salted caramel sauce ain't too bad either!

Woo Hoo! HEB has been surprisingly good for this CA transplant, but I've been missing items from Trader Joes. Like.....the Mediterranean Hummus, Maple cream cookies, Swiss Cheese quiche, the great samples, the way they hide a store mascot stuffed animal for kids to locate each day and then reward the kids with an organic lollipop. And the prices are quite low for gourmet food. In San Diego, Trader Joe's is much more popular than Whole Foods or Sprouts, so it should do well here, too. I wish it were further north, though.

I went today, it was packed. Probably the busiest that shopping center has ever been since it was built.

The checkout line went around the whole interior of the store back out to the door, so we didn't buy anything. They must be used to this kind of thing, because everything was constantly stocked and no empty spots on the shelves. Will have to try again when it's not so new...

Instead of washing our cars, maybe we just need a TJ's opening to bring us rain!!!

At the Atlanta area openings a few years ago, it was a bit of a neighborhood 'party' at each store...likely the most fun wait in a checkout line in recent memory! Takes some high energy by the staff...one of the hallmarks of TJ's.

One great thing about Trader Joes opening in Westlake is that hopefully it will reroute some of the Lamar traffic out to that area.

We went to Whole Foods last night for dinner, and we actually got to park right in front of the store. Also, there were NO CARS queued up to get into the parking lot.

Whole Foods had tons of stuff on sale that normally would not be, including masses of $3.99 plonk and bulk food items. Looks like they realize that they're going to have to compete with TJs, and the changes look really promising.

Wa-hoo! Hope it stays like this!

I took a walk through TJ today just to see what the big deal is. Honestly, it was just too crowded to be able to form an opinion. I'll wait a few weeks until the initial fervent throngs have got their ya yas out, then take a nice stroll through the aisles and see what's what.

I did however see up front that the navel oranges are too small for me. I like the gigantic ones from Sams, not the small ones that are hard to peel and not as juicy. Wasn't able to see much else as it was, as Charlton Heston said, a mad house, a mad house.

Total madhouse but we got all of our "wants"!
Shelves were well stocked and the person holding the end of the line sign was friendly. The line moved swiftly and there were crew members handing out cookie samples while we waited. Lots of cashiers, honestly I have waited in longer lines at HEB. The aisles were a bit hard to navigate because there were so many carts/people but everyone was patient and friendly. We opted for a hand held basket, made navigation easier.
So glad to have a TJ's that is local, while I don't buy a lot of groceries there, its nice to have something that is familiar and comfortable. Now to enjoy the new jar of cookie butter, yum yum!
