Call me weird but I don't see what's so hard about bringing your bags with you and re-using. Europeans have done it that way for a long time. Just keep a stash in your trunk.

not only grocery.. i went to subway the other day and same story -- the subway carry out plastic bags are banned too. carry your sub in paper wrap..

Up here by Round Rock HEB still has plastic bags, but we've been using the green reusable ones for several years.

I don't mind doing it, since I usually do light and frequent shopping. But what in heavens' name are the breeders with the big families going to do? Maybe they'll come up with some kind of subsidy to help those folks out?

I also shopped at Sears grand on Parmer Friday and they don't have the plastic bags (of course) - but they do give the large paper bags with handles for FREE.

I think it's helpful that the bags are not available anywhere - so I've started bringing my own bag everywhere - Macy's, Goodwill, etc - rather than trying to remember when I need them and when I don't.

They already do it at Central Market which HEB owns. They should just raise prices and that will take care of the bags.
