My band has a concert coming up, and I want to post flyers on bulletin boards around South Austin. I've already got a list of every musical instrument store in South Austin that has a bulletin board. What are other commercial establishments with bulletin boards where I could put flyers (ex: coffee shops, restaurants, etc.)?

It's been a while since I've thought about something like that... but aren't the utility poles pretty much covered with band flyers all over south congress? Couldn't you just do that?

All the bands I know right now pretty much just get the word out through facebook. They suggest their band page for all their friends to like, then post their gigs there.

The old Kerby Lane's used to have big bulletin boards for flyers but not any more. Pretty old school approach. HEBs used to have community bulletin boards too.

Now, community notices go out via list serves, facebook and twitter!

good luck

I use a lot of social media tools to announce my band's shows, but one should never rely just on social media to get the word out. I give handbills to people, and I've found that posters and flyers do make a different in spreading the word. One of our fans told me that he came to our show because he saw one of our posters.

And no, I can't put flyers on utility poles. That's the equivalent of littering, and it'll definitely build a bad reputation for my band.

Thanks a lot for the information. The "Places to Poster in Austin" link was last updated in 2004, so several of the places on the list no longer exist, but I did get a lot of good ideas from the list.
