I have read that there will be a new high school built in Pearson Ranch at some point. Looking at a map, I see that Great Oaks elementary is right next to that area. Currently, it feeds into Round Rock High (which, from what I've read is less desirable than other schools I'm looking at, say McNeil, Westwood, Cedar Park). Does anyone know if my guess that Great Oaks would be rezoned to the new high school is true? We'll need a high school in 2017. I know I'm over-thinking this.....

My kids currently go to Great Oaks E.S. and I have no idea where they will go when it's time for high school. I really like RRHS so I hope they will go there but with the student populations always changing there is no way to tell. With Elsa England open now at Pearson Ranch, Great Oaks is moving the 4th grade out of portables and back into school classrooms - yay!

A quick question for you-- does Great Oak have after school clubs like chess? I looked at their website but didn't get very much information from it. Is it a friendly, warm school in terms of parents and staff? Are the kids pretty nice, and tolerant of socially awkward kids? My daughter isn't obviously weird, but I can tell that she's not very social. And it's good to hear that you really like Round Rock High. It looks like so many "good" schools feed into it that it must be fine? We'd be interested in AP programs and such.

From my memory when I lived in Cedar Park, the three high schools you named are all excellent schools, with Westwood being rated the highest.

Good Luck in you decision making, we'll be there in a few weeks, and we still haven't made a decision whether we're going to try the Southwest areas that feed into Bowie or live in the areas feeding into Westwood.

This is sort of a funny thing because you are comparing three very well rated schools. All of them are excellent options. I live right by Round Rock High School. The kids there are fabulous, and the programs are great, too. I would "gamble" on the new highschool if I were you, only because if you "lose" and have to go to RRHS, you still WIN.

The OP was posted 8 months ago, so maybe she found an answer elsewhere.

The academics at RRHS are as good as the other schools mentioned. My SIL taught there for 44 years, most of it in AP classes.

RRHS does have more special needs programs than the others, so that tends to drag down some of the overall scores. But the Dragons held their own in most UIL academic competitions.

Two of my grandkids who went to Cedar Valley MS attended McNeil. It's a good school too.

Just heard this evening that the RRISD board of trustees have approved a bond election of $299 million to be held in May.
Doesn't include a new high school though.
Details so far:
"The bond package will include the building of an elementary and middle school, the continuation of Phase 3B at Round Rock High School and Phase 3 at Westwood High School, development of master plans for McNeil High and C.D. Fulkes Middle schools, expansion and refresh of technology, as well as a series of renovation projects.

Three propositions will appear on the ballot:

Proposition 1 - $234.2 million to address growth, health/safety, capital renewal and replacement, and technology refresh
Proposition 2 - $25.9 million to expand technology access and additional capital renewal and replacement
Proposition 3 - $38.9 million to build two fine arts venues"

We ended up in a neighborhood that feeds into Vista Ridge High in the Leander ISD. I'm happy with our choice overall.
