My husband's job might relocate him to Kyle, TX. We would like to live closer to Austin rather than Kyle. I am thinking southwest Austin might be the best place for us to go however I do not want my husband to have an awful commute. Our main concern is the elementary school since we have a first grader. My other children are 1 and 4 so we would like a nice, family friendly neighborhood with parks. We will most likely rent at first since we have to be out of our house in less than 2 months and settled somewhere in Austin before school starts. Our budget is between $2500-3000/month. We are looking for a 4 bedroom house. Can anyone please recommend neighborhoods that have an excellent elementary school and are family-friendly but will not require my husband to drive an hour to Kyle? Thank you so much!!!

Absolutely and anywhere in those vicinities that feed into the same schools.

I noticed on that School performance map that Buda has a pretty highly rated elementary school.

The Plum Creek neighborhood of Buda is full of musicians and artists who were long ago priced out of Bouldin and Zilker neighborhoods, I'd bet that the highest rated elementary in Buda includes Plum Creek.

I'd look long and hard at Plum Creek. Pretty quick access to Austin through Manchaca via 1626/Brodie. Close to the job, good elementary and mostly new quasi-craftsman housing stock.

Plus, you could likely get by on 50% of your housing budget and take one killer vacation next year.

1626/Brodie are a nightmare during commute times, which is why so much push to build TX 45 out to I-35 to connect to Mopac. If you're sure the job would either stay in Kyle or you'd move out of the metro, then the southward commute to I-35 would be do-able. For $2500-$3000 per month you'd have an easy time buying anything. Don't tell the real estate agents, they'll just drive up the price!

Standard Pacific has five spec houses in Avaña at Circle C at your price point that you could be in by the start of school. Meets all your stated needs.

I was just looking at some listings there, and Google street view. I'm really impressed. That's well done.
