Which direction is downtown Austin growing? (hotels, houses, buying)

Not enough space in the CBD - something's gotta give. Where do you see downtown making it's next move?

People who want to live there, the hotels, the university, the city govt, the county govt, state govt and businesses. THey are all trying cram in downtown right now - The State govt is on a massive RE buying spree trying to consolidate.

No, that's not what I said. Are you saying that there isn't enough space for everyone who does want to live there? On the basis of what, if so?

There's way too little inventory in almost the entire city of Austin because people want to live in Austin, but a lot of those people do NOT want to live downtown.

You say "that's not what I said" and then go on to tell him that many people moving to Austin do not want live downtown, although he never said that everyone wants to live downtown. You're the one coming in and creating a straw man argument, for some silly reason. What's the point?

To answer his question, I'll guess it's going to continue moving UP, long before it will need to move out.

Actually, before the OP edited his post between my two posts, my second one made more sense than it does now. I was pointing out, in response to his very brief post that originally ONLY said that apparently everyone wants to move downtown, that this was not the case based on how fast houses were being snapped up all over the area and that many people moving to the area do not want to move downtown.

Once the OP edited his original post, deleting the original post and putting an entirely different one in its place, my response to it makes no sense at all!

To answer the original question of the thread title, the CBD is growing up and east. The question in the poll asks which direction it's going to grow, and I'd say East/Southeast for a while, with some growth down the major corridors to the south (though south of the river is not the CBD but South Austin), and more up, as well, until downtown is nothing but high rises.

North, or rather, it already has grown north. The distinction between "downtown" and campus/west campus is fairly arbitrary, as the later actually has a greater population density.
